GEORGE - A fire destroyed a mobile home in George Friday morning and spread to a nearby storage shed before being extinguished.

Thirteen firefighters from Grant County Fire District 3 stations in George and Quincy responded to the 300 block of Sam Avenue at about 9:30 a.m., according to Grant County Fire District 3 Chief Don Fortier. The location is a semi-industrial area set away from residential neighborhoods, he said.

The fire fully engulfed the privately owned mobile home and spread to an adjacent quonset hut owned by the Washington State Department of Transportation and used for storing road salt, according to Travis Wittman with Kissler Enterprises, a general freight trucking company located on property in front of the burned structure.

The mobile home was deemed a total loss but it was already in the process of being demolished, Fortier said. Crews brought the fire under control before it did extensive damage to the storage shed.

No cause for the blaze is known at this time, Fortier said.
