Fishing Magician - New and exciting fisheries

There are a couple of new and very exciting fisheries pending here in Central Washington. Starting as early as August 1st, there could be an opening of fishing for triploid rainbow trout above Brewster. As most anglers know, there was a huge release of triploids from the net pens on Rufus Woods Reservoir, and combined with the spill of water over Chief Joseph Dam a significant number of them are showing up in the Columbia below Bridgeport.

In order to reduce these numbers, the Department of Fish and Wildlife has proposed a fishery for them. There would be a four fish limit. It is important that anglers look for the official notice on the department's web site to confirm the opening of this fishery.

Also very exciting is the pending opening of part of the Wenatchee River to summer run salmon fishing. This hasn't happened in many, many years and anglers will be very pleased to fish for salmon on the Wenatchee. I want to mention again that the official word will be posted on the Department of Fish and Wildlife web site, and in my future columns and reports. It looks like the most exciting fishing of the summer is just getting started now!
