QUINCY - A new king may soon be sitting on the throne of the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) standings.

The only question now is who?

With a clutch 1-0 road win at two-time defending champions, Quincy, Tuesday night, the Othello Huskies are now 5-1 and in first place of the CWAC by one-half game over Ellensburg with the two teams set to meet next week in Othello on Senior Night.

"So the next couple of games are going to determine the league title for us and whether or not we get home field advantage and a first round bye into the district tournament," Othello head coach Bernie Garza.

Against the Jacks (6-7, 1-6), Othello battled to a scoreless first half tie by intermission but broke through moments after halftime.

Jorge Campos would tally a 46th minute penalty kick to put the only score on the board as the Huskies would hold on from there.

"Quincy was playing really aggressive, at times dirty and the ref allowed them to play this way," Garza said. "We couldn't get into a rhythm and when we did they called us for the foul or fouled us and we couldn't get going.  That aggressive play by Quincy ended up costing them the game when Ociel Romero was taken down inside the box and the ref had no choice but to call for the PK."

Campos actually missed the penalty kick when his shot was parried on the right side of goal, but the Jacks were called for an infraction by the goalie who came forward off the line. Campos took the second shot and this time was true as Othello had broken through, according to Garza.

Garza also said his team had some solid attempts at goal but they were thwarted by some solid Quincy goaltending from Alex Sanchez.

Huskie goalie Christian Mellin also did his best to keep Quincy off the board.

"He made some diving saves towards the end of the game as Quincy was pressuring late," Garza said. "Ten extra minutes were added in the second half for no apparent reason and the ref couldn't or didn't want to explain himself."

Both teams also were denied by the woodwork or by misses of just an inch or two, Garza said.

Othello was outshot by the Jacks 15-11.
