WILSON CREEK - A strong showing at home kept an improving girls tennis team at Wilson Creek headed in the right direction yesterday afternoon.

The Lady Devils cruised to a 5-0 win over White Swan while the boys were beaten 4-0 by their guests.

As for the host Wilson Creek girls, their singles players swept to three strong wins, led by Carolin Kiesl at No. 1, 8-0.

Clarissa Hansen won 8-2 at No. 2 and Brandi Bonnell finished off the singles' sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 3.

In doubles play, Kiesl and Hansen won 8-1 at No. 1 while the No. 2 duo of Ziba Atak and Samantha Dowers won 8-2.

""They're doing okay and we have Carolin who hasn't lost a set all year," Wilson Creek head coach Mike Ottis said. "She has a shot of going on at districts. The rest are first year players that are coming along and that's all I can ask for. Being youngsters and being first year players, they are learning the game but the instincts are starting to come. I try to work on keeping the point going and make the opponents make mistakes. If you extend the point it forces the other team into making more mistakes."

The boys might have fallen to White Swan but there are still signs of progress.

"It's the same thing as with girls but we're seeing a little bit more experience on the boys side when considering our opponents,"  Ottis said. "I am seeing improvement and seeing what I need to see. I know they are getting frustrated but they are getting some quality points within the games."
