PREP TENNIS: OTHELLO 3-4, QUINCY 2-1

QUINCY - A tough Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) match between Columbia Basin rivals, Quincy and Othello was a tough, nip and tuck affair Tuesday.

In the end, the visiting Huskies teams won, as the boys held on for a 3-2 win and the girls pulled away for a 4-1 victory over the Lady Jacks.

The Huskies (5-1 in CWAC) swept the doubles competition while Quincy won both singles matches.

At No. 1 singles, Quincy's Garrett VanDyke won 6-1, 6-0 over Andrew Logan and the No. 2 Jacks' player Samuel Gregg won 6-1, 6-1 over Callen Anderson.

But in doubles action Othello saw wins at No. 1 (Alec Montemayor/Ben Taff 6-1, 6-3 over Adam Wilson/Joe Avaos), No. 2 (Marcus Garza/Wesley Cogswell 6-1, 6-0 over James Bensch/Marco Hernandez), and No. 3 (Austin Roylance/Gabe Harris 6-1, 6-1 over Sonny Fregoso/Miguel Tapia).

On the girls' side, Quincy's Ciara Rasmussen secured her team's sole victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles over Ashley Almaguer.

The other singles match saw, Othello's Bethany Vargas beat Ashley Breeden 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2.

The Lady Huskies (5-1) continued its strong doubles play behind wins by Emma Hymus and Jocelyn Cantu at No. 1 as they held on for a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Sara Rigby and Blanca Corona.

At No. 2 doubles, Othello saw Amelia Roylance and Yannita Cantu roll past Claudia Valenzuela and Reyna Diaz, 6-0, 6-2, and the No. 3 team of Brooke Roylance and Sheila Cuellar held on for a 6-2, 7-5 win over Lady Jacks, Antonia Valenzuela and Caitlin Silk.
