EPHRATA - The Ephrata Lady Tigers pulled out a tense 3-2 CWAC win over visiting Ellensburg yesterday while the rolling boys squad fell to the Bulldogs, 4-1.

The girls of Ephrata and Ellensburg split singles play, with Lady Tiger Aubrey Denley pulling out a close 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2.

Ephrata then gained the winning edge in doubles as the No. 2 team of Tessa Ratigan and Tiana Schmitz won 6-4, 6-2 and Giang Bui and Whitney Miller won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3.

The Lady Tigers (5-7, 2-3) dropped a tough three-set match at No. 1 doubles.

"Many of the games had long rallies," Ephrata head coach Deanna Brown said. "It was great to see our second and third doubles girls show a little bit of fight."

The Ephrata boys lost only their second match of the year and fell to 3-2 in the CWAC despite a strong 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles by Connor and Hunter Spears.

"It was a tough loss for the boys," Brown said. "We had expected it to be a little more competitive.  Hunter and Connor are starting to gel as a doubles team."
