Chiefs return from strong Kiwanis trip

HERMISTON, Ore. - The Moses Lake High School girls and boys track teams finished tied for sixth and 12th respectively at the Kiwanis Invitational in Hermiston, Ore. on Saturday.

Sadie Nielsen secured a few top performances to secure the girls' place at the invitational.

The sophomore took first in the discus with a throw of 117'6" and followed that up with a ninth place result in the shot put (30'10.5").

Jordan Loera nailed a third-place throw in the javelin (120'7"), and finished sixth in the triple jump (32'11.5") and seventh in the long jump (16'0.25").

Finishing fourth in the 2k steeplechase was Julia Sheremet (8:25.9) while sixth-place finishes were recorded by Holly Martin (2k Steeplechase, 8:58.56), London Cleverly (400-meter run, 1:02.25), and the 4x100-meter relay team of Cleverly, Keiley Garcia, Kayla Grigg, and Magie Munoz (51.9).

Selina Koon ended up in fifth place after a 4'10" result in the high jump.

On the boys' side, the team's best finish came via Cameron Law's fourth place pole vault height of 12'6".

Brandon Bradley ended up in fifth place in the discus (122'11") and took sixth place in the shot put (43'10").

Two seventh-place results were recorded by Cameron Ballard (high jump, 5'8") and Atsushi Nakamura (3k steeplechase, 11:15.52).

Hayden Wise captured ninth place in both the 1,500-meter run (4:33.15) and the 3,000-meter run (10:02.05).

The ninth best long jump was scored by Jordan Koon (18'9.5") and he helped the 4x100-meter relay team secure the same place with a time of 47.2. Koon joined forces with Steven Cline, Ben Crowell, and Law.

Moses Lake hosts the Columbia Basin Big Nine track meet starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
