Reader won't subscribe, angry with column

| April 22, 2011 6:00 AM

I am a teacher at Frontier Middle School in the Moses Lake School District, and I'm writing to let you know that the "My Turn" article by Lynne Lynch regarding her visit to a local public school was as ridiculous as it was offensive. It floors me that this trash was allowed to be printed in our local paper.

Lynch admonished our schools and teachers because: a) a female teacher bent over to pick something up and gravity lifted her shirt a bit (and what exactly does her salary have to do with that, anyway?), b) someone, possibly a staff member, had dirt on their jeans while eating lunch, and c) a male teenage student used an obscenity while talking to another student in the parking lot.

Does that seem logical to you? Does it seem fair? Does it seem like good journalism?

The Herald should be ashamed of itself. Apologies should be issued.

My wife (also a teacher in the Moses Lake School District) and I have been recently considering subscribing to the Herald. Needless to say, that will not happen. I can also tell you that because of this article a large number of people will be canceling their subscriptions.

Perhaps in the future, those responsible for editing the Herald will actually do so, and those who are allowed to write for it will do so responsibly.
