Movie night organized in support of cancer research
MATTAWA - The 21st Century Program at Wahluke High School will host a movie night in support of breast cancer research at the Wahluke High School Commons tomorrow, Wednesday, 20, in the evening.
The movie will be "Tangled" by the Disney Company. It was recently released on video.
There will be no admission charge for the movie. The doors will open at 6 p.m., with the movie starting at 6:30.
"This will be great for the entire family," said Jay Scott, site director for 21st Century.
The purpose of the movie night is to raise funds for breast cancer research. There will be a concession stand and a place to purchase breast cancer research support items such as key chains. There will also be donation boxes.
Staffing for the concession stand will be members of Andrea's Angels. It is a group of family and friends that supports breast cancer research in the name of victim Andrea Eckenberg.
Eckenberg is the mother-in-law of Scott. Her diagnosis brought greater awareness of the illness for him.
"It made me very sad, and it made me hurt even more because of how it affected my wife Robyn," Scott said. "The journey we all had to take with Andrea throughout her battle has left ever-lasting impressions on our lives."
As a result, Scott has fears of his own. He understands his wife is at a high risk of having cancer. So is his daughter.
"I believe the strides we take today will ultimately help save our children tomorrow," he said.
