MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake is paving some alleys between Third Avenue and Broadway Avenue this year.

The city council recently approved advertising for bids for the city's 2011 alley reconstruction project. The city plans to remove the existing asphalt and pave the alleys between Third Avenue and Broadway Avenue, starting at Alder Street and ending at Beech Street.

The city estimates the construction will cost $225,000, according to city records. The project is part of the city's 2011 budget.

Municipal Services Director Gary Harer said the project is likely to start during the first part of June, ending by the beginning of August. The construction won't affect the roads, but the alleys will be closed.

"Those alleys have been in need of it for many years," Harer said. "There's always discussions to underground those utilities, but it didn't come to pass, so we're going ahead and paving it without (putting the utility lines underground.)"
