Moses Lake man shot, killed

MOSES LAKE - Two homes were shot at during the weekend, leaving a 23-year-old man dead.

Joaquin O. Serrano, of Moses Lake, was killed when someone shot at his home Sunday morning.

Grant County sheriff's deputies found Serrano dead at roughly 3 p.m. after a caller to 9-1-1 reported finding shell casings on Sun Drive near Moses Lake, according to Sheriff Tom Jones.

"Deputies responded and discovered bullet holes in the residence ... Deputies knocked but received no answer at the home's door. Fearing someone may be hurt, deputies forced entry into the home and discovered a dead adult man inside," Jones stated.

Investigators discovered about 12 hours earlier a 9-1-1 caller reported hearing gunfire near the residence.

The reason for the shooting remains unclear.

"Some of the preliminary investigation shows it was a targeted incident and not a random incident," Jones stated.

Investigators are not revealing much about the shooting. Jones said more information will become available as the investigation progresses.

Another shooting took place Saturday in Moses Lake, but Moses Lake police Capt. Dave Sands said there is no evidence connecting the two incidents.

At roughly 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning five shots were fired through the windows of a home on Parkway Drive in Moses Lake, according to Sands.

Four adults and four children were inside the home, but they were not injured.
