MATTAWA - Anita Brown has acquired Hot Brews espresso and combined it with her Tiddaly Diddaly's deli and pizza parlor into one business, as of April 1.

In order to oversee the new combined venture, Brown will be at work at 6 a.m. She used to come in at 8 a.m. She will continue to go home at 6:30.

"Deanna (Robinson) can open, but I want to make sure everything is in order before I turn it over to someone else," Brown said.

The same familiar faces will continue to serve Tiddaly Diddaly's and Hot Brews customers. Robinson is a recent hire. Stacey Robinson (not related) and Joni Madden are four-year employees. Cindy Brown, Anita's daughter-in-law, is back on the job after taking time off for a baby.

Tiddaly Diddaly's and Hot Brews are located in adjacent bays A and B in the Port's administration building, which fronts the road. They have a common archway and were operated somewhat together when Elaine Brewer was owner of Hot Brews.

"She's going to spend more time with her grandkids, her family and her husband," Brown said.

Brown opened Tiddaly Diddaly's, which specializes in sub sandwiches, pizza and homemade ice cream, in bay A in May of 2002. Brewer opened Hot Brews, which specializes in coffee and espresso, in the same bay A in June of 2009.

Hot Brews outgrew the available space in bay A, and Brewer moved to bay B. As she grew, she added breakfast food items.

Brown will operate Tiddaly Diddaly's and Hot Brews as one business, but she will promote them as two entities, retaining both names. All drinks, ice cream and breakfast foods will be sold out of Hot Brews.

Tiddaly Diddaly's will focus on sandwiches, pizza and Ivar's Clam Chowder. It will add breakfast pizzas and personal pizzas.

The Hot Brews breakfast menu will include biscuits and gravy and pancakes and waffles. There will also be bagel and toasted Panini breakfast sandwiches.

"The public is treating us very well," Brown said. "We get wonderful support from the community."
