Royal artist's work makes it into magazine

ROYAL CITY - Abigail Guijosa started expressing herself with drawings in fifth grade and, recently, the Royal City 20-year-old had the pleasure of seeing one of her pieces in the most recent edition of Lowrider Arte Magazine.
The printing of Guijosa's colored pencil drawing "Thinkin Evilly" was not by accident, however. Guijosa was browsing through an issue of Lowrider at Royal City Harvest Foods, where she is employed, and spotted a solicitation for submissions.
"They were offering $500 to the piece that was selected No. 1. So I entered," she said.
Guijosa's piece was not chosen No.1, but when she opened the most recent Lowrider, she felt as if she had won. Her piece was printed for all Lowrider fans to see.
"I would say art is one of my best talents," Guijosa said. "I've been good at it since way back in school."
This piece is one of Guijosa's favorites. Although she likes to work with colored pencil, it's not easy for her.
"Even I was amazed it came out great," she said.
This honor pleased Guijosa also because the piece came from her imagination. Most of her practice has been copy drawing.
"I got involved with Lowrider Arte Magazine because of the art printed in it," Guijosa said. "I would sneak a peek in there for ideas I could use to make my work better."
