WENATCHEE - A rainy, dreary day of weather was the icing on the cake for the Wenatchee Panthers' tennis teams.

As for the Moses Lake Chiefs, they settled for humble pie.

The Chiefs dropped a 4-0 decision to Wenatchee in boys play and the girls fell 5-2 as the Panthers asserted their dominance in a dual shortened by rain.

"That is the top team in the state who were missing a key player and still took it to us today," Moses Lake head coach Jon Wrigley said of his boys' performance. "We came out flat in doubles, I was hoping we were going to show a bit more today we handed them too many freebies."

Two singles and two doubles matches were played before the match was suspended.

In the four matches played, no sets were won by Moses Lake players and the Chiefs were outscored 48-5 in games.

On the girls' side, the Chiefs showed some gumption before falling to a strong Wenatchee squad.

"They matched our strength in doubles and we did not finish off some key sets in singles to give us an opportunity to win the match as a team," Wrigley said. "Courtney Kunjara handled the elements well and had a real solid win at the top."

Kunjara won her match at No. 1 singles with a strong 6-1, 6-4 showing against Alexa Glomb.

Also, pulling off a win was the No. 3 doubles team of Makena Jansen and Marki Koreis. The two girls rallied from a 7-5 first set loss to win the match behind a 6-0, 6-2 run.

"They started moving on the court they really took over the match," Wrigley said of Jansen and Koreis.
