ROYAL CITY - The Royal City Distinguished Young Woman Court is asking community youths to join them in celebrating Be Your Best Self week from April 25-29.

"I hope all of the young people in our community will participate and challenge themselves to become a better person," DYW Moriah Christensen said. "You will become confident in all you do and be ready to accomplish any goal you set for yourself."

The DYW girls are asking their peers, boys and girls, to pledge to do or observe five things that should help them accomplish the goal.

First they are asking youths to make the promise: "I want to help improve the world, and that begins with me."

The five messages to pledge are:

Be Healthy (Be physically fit and drug free).

Be Involved (Serve the community).

Be Studious (Stay in school).

Be Ambitious (Set and achieve goals).

Be Responsible (Live by moral and ethical principles).

"Being ambitious, healthy, involved, studious and responsible are things for which I've always has an interest," DYW first finalist Mariana Alvarez said.

"The junior miss program is altering my understanding of the importance of each aspect to ultimately be happy, successful and grateful," she added.
