Chiefs baseball splits with Wenatchee

WENATCHEE - On Tuesday, the Moses Lake Chiefs baseball team travelled north for a doubleheader against rivals Wenatchee and came away with a split.

The Chiefs broke into the Big 9 win column and ended a seven-game losing streak with a 4-2 win in game one and then dropped a tough 3-1 decision in the nightcap.

Moses Lake (4-8, 1-2) scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh inning to build a late 4-1 lead they would hold on to.

Mitch Yada pitched into the seventh inning for Moses Lake was relieved by Nate Steffler, and earned the win. Yada finished with 11 strikeouts.

Cameron Alvarado went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Elliot Sage was 1-for-2 with an RBI to lead the offense.

Brett Lopez's RBI single in the sixth inning gave the Chiefs the lead for good.

The host Panthers earned the split by holding  Moses Lake to four hits in the second game.

Despite the loss, the Chiefs got a strong pitching performance from Nick Laszlo who went the distance, striking out seven in six innings.

"It was two unearned runs that made the difference," Moses Lake interim head coach Quintz Whitaker said. "We pitched great tonight.  All the boys threw strikes and kept us in striking distance throughout."

Moses Lake hosts Davis at Larson Field on Friday starting at 4 p.m.
