Warden rolls to 3-0 in SCAC play

WHITE SWAN - Behind two strong offensive performances bolstered by solid pitching the Warden Cougars baseball team cruised to a 12-1, 14-0 doubleheader sweep of White Swan on Saturday.

Warden (7-1, 3-0) were led by Cruz Pruneda's two-hit pitching performance in game one as he struck out eight while allowing the only run.

On offense he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and was aided by Ty Jesse (3-for-3, three RBI), Derek Pruneda (3-for-3), and Jacob Yamane and Garritt Marks who both went 2-for-4.

Cruz Pruneda allowed 2 hits and 1 ER, 8 K's,and went the distance to get the win in six

"We hit the ball really well with 14 total hits and Cruz's strong pitching," Warden head coach Dan Caballero said. "He has been a real bright spot for us this year and his mound presence really sets the tone for our defense.  We had a couple of mental errors on the bases but other than that I was really happy how we came out and played in game one."

It was more of the same in the nightcap as Marcelo Pruneda pitched a one-hitter as well behind nine strikeouts.

Rudy Martinez went 3-for-3 with two RBI, Yamane went 3-for-5, and Jesse ended up 2-for-3. 

"Marcelo continues to have strong outings for us and continues to get better," Caballero said. "He was in control of the game and did a great job working ahead in the counts and battling back when he fell behind. I was pleased with our play overall and with Rudy.  He came up some clutch hits with runners in scoring position and two outs."
