EPHRATA - The Othello Lady Huskies continued their strong start to the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) season with a stirring 13-0, 15-1 doubleheader sweep of the host Ephrata Lady Tigers on Saturday.

Othello (8-2, 8-0) used a seven-run, third inning to put away the opening game win as Brenda Rodriguez threw a one-hitter, striking out seven.

"We came out strong defensively and held Othello the to one run in the first two innings," Ephrata head coach JoElle Malone said. "But we couldn't produce hits offensively when needed."

Daisy Salgado and Joanna Quezada each went 3-for-4 to lead the Othello offense while Alyssa Martinez finished 2-for-3, and Kim Bullis went 2-for-4.

"The Othello girls played very well and were seeing that both offensively and defensively," Othello head coach Rudy Ochoa said. "Brenda pitched an outstanding game giving up only one hit to the bare minimum opponents faced - 16 - in five innings."

In the second game, Othello came out hitting hard, scoring eight runs in the top of the first and the would roll on from there.

Skylar Lund hit a triple for Ephrata (2-8, 2-6).

Salgado went 2-for-2 with two doubles and four RBI, Rodriguez went 3-fo-4 as did Miranda Martinez and Anica Garza, who also had four RBI.

Quezada went 2-for-3.

Bullis pitched for the win.

"The Huskies came out strong again and played well together as a team," Ochoa said. "There were a lot of positives on and off the field. I was well pleased with the total effort of the whole team."

Othello will try to continue its unbeaten run when CWAC play starts up again, when they host Prosser on Friday for a doubleheader.

Currently the Lady Huskies are tied with Ellensburg (8-0) at the top of the league standings.
