SCRAP METAL

| April 8, 2011 6:00 AM

Accusations about a local recycler are not true. In the last year, I have taken scrap metal that has had residency around my shop and storage yard for years to three different recyclers and my experiences are as follows:

1. I have taken four pickup loads to J&K Metals. When I took each load, they weighed my pickup and recorded my vehicle disc and disc poundage and what I was hauling. When I sent to the office to get paid, they asked me for, and recorded the information on, my Washington driver's license, verifying my name and address. They paid me with separate checks for metal and copper and gave me weight slips then paid me a fair price. Each load I took to them, this procedure never changed.

2. I took a load of aluminum to Moses Lake Metal. I was weighed and told to go to another area where workers unloaded me and walked off, so I returned to the scale and reweighed. Upon entering the office, the man at the desk said, "What name do you want on the check?" I gave him my wife's name in fun. He handed me the check for her and no weight slip. He just said, "Get off the scale."

3. I took two loads of metal and other items to Bargain Barn. They looked at my load and paid me cash with no receipt.

Now, I ask you, who of these three buyers of metal and recyclables is the best place to sell stolen property. I understand that in the Tri-Cities they pay cash 24 hours a day for anything of value.

Quit picking on the most honest metal buyer in the area. If anyone doesn't believe this testimonial, take a load and test it out.
