Huskies tennis wins, Quincy gets nipped

OTHELLO - Othello's tennis teams recorded two 3-2 wins over East Valley on Tuesday in their Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) opener.

The Lady Huskies (3-2, 1-0) won behind their doubles teams which swept all three matches to overcome two losses in singles.

The No. 1 team of Emma Hymus and Jocelyn Cantu hung on for a tough 6-0, 6-7 (5), 6-4 win, while the No. 2 team of Amelia Roylance and Yanitta Cantu rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win.

A team victory was in hand when the No. 3 team of Sheila Cuellar and Katrina Montemayor blitzed their East Valley opponents, 6-3, 6-0.

On the boys' side, Othello, split in singles and took two of three in doubles to hold on for the win.

The Huskies (3-2, 1-0) were led by Benn Taff's 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-2) come-from-behind win at No. 2 singles, and then the No. 1 doubles team of Marcus Garza and Wesley Cogswell did the same by rallying for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Austin Roylance and Gabe Harris won at No. 2 doubles but no score was made available.

QUINCY 2-2

Wapato 3-3

QUINCY - The Quincy Jacks' doubles play on the boys' side kept them from defeating the Wapato Wolves in their CWAC opener on Tuesday.

Quincy's singles players, Garrett Van Dyke (No. 1) won 6-1, 7-5, and Samuel Grigg (No. 2) cruised to a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Wapato swept all three doubles matches to eke out the win.

On the girls' side, No. 1 singles player Ciara Rassmussen and the No. 2 doubles team of Sara Rigby and Blanca Corona both recorded two-set wins as the Lady Jacks fell 3-2 as a team to Wapato.
