Martinez scores first birdie

MATTAWA - The highlight of the day for the Wahluke High School golf team at the Grandview Invitational last week was the first birdie of the season for a Warrior.

The 3 scored by Steven Martinez on the par-4 No. 16 hole at Black Rock Creek Golf Course was also the young man's first career birdie.

The Warriors are a fledgling team with all beginners. Of the five players, Martinez had the low score of 122. The team score was 574.

Other individual scores were 144 for Jack Yorgesen, 150 for Eduardo Ortiz, 158 for Edgar Martinez and 165 for Noe Mata. Mata's score did not figure in the team total.
