Richland sweeps two from Chiefs in Big 9 play

MOSES LAKE - A tough way to open up Big 9 play befell the Moses Lake Chiefs on Friday afternoon at Larson Field.

The Chiefs dropped both games to the visiting Richland Bombers, 11-4 and 10-5.

Richland broke open a close game in the opener at they scored seven runs in the ninth inning after the teams went into extras tied at 4-4.

Moses Lake (3-5, 0-2) tied the game at 4-4 in their half of the sixth to force extended play.

Bryton Redal and Tony Hernandez each had two hits to pace the Chiefs' offense.

Nick Lazlo started and pitched six innings, striking out five while scattering six hits.

The Richland rally was sparked by a Kenton Brunson grand slam.

In the night cap, Richland used a five-run third inning to rally from a 4-2 deficit and cruised from there.

Moses Lake's offense was sparked by Deven Juarez, Redal, and Hernandez as they all knocked out two hits with an RBI apiece.

OTHELLO 23-11

Grandview 11-1

GRANDVIEW - Othello remained near the top of the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) with a strong performance at Grandview on Saturday.

The visiting Huskies routing Grandview 23-2 and 11-1 to sweep a weekend double-dip and move to 4-3 in league play, and 5-3 overall.

Othello scored in every inning of the opener, peaking with eight in the fourth inning and six in the team's first at-bat.

Othello's Amando DeLeon held Grandview to three hits.

He also hit a home run and knocked in four runs while David Garza finished 4-for-4 with six RBI and two doubles.

A seven-run third inning was enough for Othello to cruise in the nightcap.

Chris Garza pitched a two-hitter for the win and DeLeon went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

EPHRATA 15-10

Wapato 0-0

WAPATO - Ephrata's Tigers got into the CWAC win column with an impressive sweep at Wapato on Saturday.

The Tigers cruised to 15-0 and 10-0 wins to sweep the doubleheader and move to 3-6 overall and 2-6 in the CWAC.

Eric Scheib and Tyler Clark combined for a one-hitter against the host Wolves and Grant Kallstrom and Scheib led the offense with the three hits apiece.

Ephrata ended up with 16 hits and saw multiple-hit performances by Zach Kallstrom and Dakota Blair.

In the second shutout, Josh Snider pitched a five-inning, one-hitter to help the Tigers cruise.

Snider, Marco Salas, Bryce Beavers, and Dusty Baughman all had two hits to lead the Ephrata attack.

QUINCY 18-13

Toppenish 3-2

QUINCY - The Quincy Jacks (4-4, 3-4) had no problems at Toppenish as they cruised to a 18-3, 13-2 doubleheader sweep of the Wildcats on Saturday.

Quincy scored eight-runs in the games' first three innings to build early leads in both contests.

No other information was made available.

ACH 5-16

Kittitas 6-5

KITTITAS -  Almira/Coulee-Hartline dropped its first game of the season as they split at Kittitas on Saturday.

ACH (7-1) won the nightcap 16-5 to bounce back from a 6-5 loss in game one.

In the opener, the Warriors couldn't take advantage of a solid outing by pitcher Jacob Olmstead.

"Jacob Olmstead had one of his best outings of the year facing a good hitting Kittitas team in going the distance and striking out 13," ACH head coach Stuart Gloyn said. "Unfortunately, we couldn't seal the deal."

Kittitas scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the win.

In game two, ACH belted 12 hits and used a big spurt over the last three innings, scoring four in each frame, to cruise to victory.

Drew Isaak pitched and earned his second win he also hit his first home run on the year, a three-run blast in the fifth inning.

Colin Deyarmin and Cash Caramandi also had three hits and two RBI apiece.
