Louis E. Barger

Louis E. Barger, 84 years of age, passed away March 25, 2011. He was a long-time Royal City resident, and for the past two years, the Lake Ridge Care Center in Moses Lake, Washington.

He was born in Gering, Nebraska, March 1, 1927, to Thomas Edward and Nettie (Reed) Barger. The youngest of five children, he received an 8th grade education and then began to work on his father's farm. He decided to enlist in the Navy and served from January 1945 to July 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1954. He met Neva Naomi Hughes in the cafe her parents ran in Lyman, Nebraska. They were later married in Torrington, Wyoming on July 17, 1948, and were happily married for 52 years. Louis worked in the oil fields in Oklahoma for a period of time then began farming on his own in Lyman before moving to Royal City, Washington in 1968 to farm until he retired in 1988. During his lifetime he enjoyed bowling, deep-sea fishing, family and friends.

He leaves behind three sons, Doug (Vonnie) of Othello, WA, Billy (Delece) of Royal City, Stuart (Cindy) of Royal City; five grandchildren, Jason (Cecilia) of Richland, WA, Jeremy of Richland, Sara (Joel) Garza of Othello, Kaci (Randy) Presnell of Richland, and Matt of Royal City; two great-grandchildren, Jenna and Lynsi Barger of Richland; two sisters, Lou Ella Prickett of Othello, and Marguerite Tipton of Oceanside, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents, one brother and one sister.

Memorial Services will be held at Benson Family Funeral Service, 104 W 5th Avenue, Moses Lake, WA 98837 on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 2 p.m.
