MOSES LAKE - Old 45-rpm records create a border on the walls of a new Moses Lake hair salon, Music to Your Hair.

A small juke box and parking meter sit on a shiny black counter at the business's doorway.

Posters of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry are also part of the ambiance created by the business's owner, Katie Ramirez.

Ramirez' pieces of memorabilia were provided by her father and inspiration, Jerry Koch, of Moses Lake.

He also helped by painting the salon's walls, while she added the bar to the new business this week.

"Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to do this," she said. "I just thought it would always be cool to have a 50s-60s salon."

Customers Ann Golden and her mother Margaret Haag, both of Moses Lake, were enjoying looking at the business's interior Monday.

Movie posters for Elvis films "Viva Las Vegas" and "Jailhouse Rock," help bring customers back to his days of popularity.

"I think it's great," Golden said before Ramirez started cutting her hair. "It's a real nice atmosphere."

Ramirez has 12 years of experience as a cosmetologist and is a graduate of the Char-Glo School of Beauty in Moses Lake. Her instructor was Gloria Deiterman.

Ramirez' work experience includes stints at other Moses Lake salons, Drakey Doo's Kids Cuts and Express Hair Care.

Cuts, colors, perms, waxing and highlights are provided at Ramirez' business.

One of her longtime co-workers, Selena Robinson, formerly of Express Hair, recently joined Ramirez at the business.

Robinson has 10 years of experience in cosmetology and is also a Char-Glo Beauty School graduate.

Music to Your Hair is housed inside the former location of Annabelle's, at 1221 Wheeler Rd., in Moses Lake.

Music to Your Hair is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

The business is open on Saturday and Monday by appointment only.
