PASCO - In their second Big 9 league meet of the season, the Moses Lake High School Chiefs cross country teams found itself on the short end of things on Tuesday.
At Big Cross in Pasco, the Chiefs finished in last place in both the boys and girls meets against Eastmont, Southridge, Walla Walla, Wenatchee, and Kamiakin.
"We ran without Will Monlux one of our top runners who is out sick," Chiefs head coach Loren Childers said. "The boys ran a strong race, just barely losing to Eastmont by three points. Big Cross is a tough cross country course with plenty of hills so the times will seem a bit slow."
Hayden Wise was the top Chiefs finisher with an 18:08, good enough for 16th place.
Dylan Darlington (19:23), Jose Sofield (19:43), Bradley Nickolas Tripp (19:45), and Taz Gaddis (20:28) were the other top five finishers.
In the girls competition, Hannah Marsh also led the Chiefs' cause with a 16th place finish, wrapping up with a time of 23:31.
Other runners who scored for the Chiefs were Julia Sheremet (24:06), Jayne Goodrich (25:26), Shailee Perry (25:49), and Holly Martin (27:09).
The girls ran without freshmen Cadance Goodwin and Madeline Wallace who were both out due to injury. "Its tough to win races if your runners are not healthy," Childers said.
