MOSES LAKE - A funeral home owner was allegedly shot by her husband at a Moses Lake cemetery.

Mark Benson, 55, Moses Lake was booked into Grant County Jail for attempted murder in the first degree on Sunday evening, according to Grant County Undersheriff John Turley.

Susan Benson, 55, Moses Lake, called police while driving herself to Samaritan Hospital with a gunshot wound to her left shoulder.

The two are in the middle of a divorce, Turley stated.

Susan Benson was mowing grass at Pioneer Memorial Gardens cemetery as part of her business, Benson Funeral Services.

When she returned from using a restroom, her husband was reportedly waiting for her to discuss the state of their divorce, according to the sheriff's office.

She began to drive away from the cemetery.

"Susan (Benson) said she heard something like gunshots and felt something hit her in her left shoulder, as if she were punched," Turley stated.

She drove herself to the hospital and was released soon after.

A few hours after the shooting, Mark Benson called police. Turley stated they arrested him in Moses Lake without incident.

Both cars were impounded by detectives and a search warrant will be used to gather evidence, according to the sheriff's office.

The incident remains under investigation.
