ROYAL CITY - After three competitive ballgames, the Royal Knights football team played host to Mabton on Friday night and for the first time the season could breathe a little easier a lot earlier.

Behind a 28-point first quarter and a 42-0 halftime lead, the Knights won their third straight game of the season with a 62-0 win over Mabton to move to 2-0 in South Central Athletic Conference (SCAC) East play and 3-1 overall.

"Our special teams were big especially with the punt return for a touchdown and a blocked punt," Royal head coach Wiley Allred said. "We just dominated in all phases and we were really efficient on offense."

Royal was led by the running of Dylan Delay (five carries for 128 yards) and Alex Myrick's all-around offense which included an 8-for-11 passing day for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Myrick also ran for 31 yards on four carries.

Royal scored first on a 46-yard punt return by Johnny Villenueva and then Kyle Spartveit continued his contribution to the team's success this season with a four-yard return off of a blocked Mabton punt.

Spartveit then caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Myrick and Delay would soonafter wrap up the dominant first quarter, with a 21-yard touchdown run.

The Knights then saw Daniel Mirror catch a 30-yard touchdown pass from Myrick and Delay score his second touchdown on a five-yard run for the 42-0 halftime lead.

Allred then would begin substituting more players in and gave plenty of second and third string players an opportunity to play.

"The biggest thing is that you hope they keep improving and working to get better," Allred said. "We got everyone in that were suited up. Our second

offense line did a good job opening holes."

The offensive line, which has improved exponentially this season according to Allred, opened up a big enough hole for Delay's third touchdown, a 67-yard run in the third quarter.

Alex Ramirez would follow that up with a 26-yard punt return for a touchdown before Laddie Goroski would put a cap on the offensive explosion by Royal with a six-yard touchdown run.

Five different Royal receivers caught at least one pass with Spartveit leading with four receptions and seven Knights ran the ball at least once.

"I think we're improving and I like how we are playing together," Allred said. "We are playing unselfish together and our greatest improvement is on our offensive line. They are inexperienced and yet making good improvement every week. Our receiving play has been real consistent and so far defensivley we have been doing a good job of running to the football."
