Fishing for fall-run salmon on the Columbia River is going great guns right now, with the hot spots being White Bluffs, Vernita and below Wanapum Dam. Local anglers and guides are hitting all three of these areas and reporting good success, but there are days that can be slow, for no apparent reason. One day a boat will take seven and by the same time the following day zip. I was invited to fish the White Bluffs area with Brian Muller of Moses Lake recently, and was thrilled to be back to an area that I hadn't fished in years. I set up with a lemon-lime Super Bait with a green Pro-Troll Flasher and got a fish on each of first two passes. Brian switched over and got a fish himself on the next drift. It turned out that was it for us for the day. We tried a couple of drifts; jet planing eggs, and missed a couple of hits. I am heading back down to fish with Shane Magnuson to tape a Fishing TV Show and will probably hit White Bluffs and Wanapum. I will let everyone how we do at these two great fall fishing salmon spots.
