Similac formula recalled for contamination
Some types of Similac baby formula were recalled Thursday.

It's because beetle parts were found in the products.
The recalled types include Similac Advance, Similac Sensitive - Fussiness and Gas, and Similac Sensitive - Soy.
Consuming the contaminated formula apparently isn't fatal, but can cause gastrointestinal discomfort, preventing babies from wanting to eat, according to the FDA.
Parents are advised to take their babies to a health care provider if illness persists and stop using the contaminated formula.

The Web site and phone number were busy Thursday while caregivers were seeing if their formula was contaminated.
If you're not able to get a response from the company, don't use the formula and visit the Web site for the state's Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program, or WIC, at www.doh.wa.gov/.
Similac is the main baby formula made available to WIC clients.
Angela Weber, child care manager at Big Bend Community College's Learning Center Child Care, said they only have one infant at the center was using the affected formula and will have to switch to liquid.
But the center has nine cans of the affected product it must obtain certificates for.
