GRANT COUNTY ELECTIONS
Reader supports Frank DeTrolio
I appreciate the political process and followed the sheriff's race with great interest. I heard Sheriff Frank DeTrolio's opponent touting rhetoric about how he is going to change the sheriff's office, "lead from the front, bring accountability back, seek accreditation, be available to the public at all times, and being tough on drugs and gangs." Having worked in the sheriff's office from 1993 through 2007, I believe its time we translate what these terms mean.
Lead from the front: micromanage. A proven failure for leadership in any organization, reducing productivity and causing a stressful work environment.
Bringing back accountability: in what form? Sheriff Frank DeTrolio's opponent should know that this term is frustrating and irrelevant due to the strength of the union and the processes involved. It is possible and plausible for a law enforcement officer to do nothing for 30 years and retire with a pension. This is due to labor laws and union strength. Is Sheriff Frank DeTrolio's opponent really going to hold everyone accountable? How is he going to achieve that?
Accreditation: really? What for? How much money and man hours are going to be spent to achieve this? What's the benefit? None!
Be available to the public at all times: Sheriff Frank DeTrolio is the most accessible sheriff I have ever known.
Being tough on drugs and gangs: Sheriff Frank DeTrolio's opponent is the Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team sergeant, what has Sheriff Frank DeTrolio's opponent done about that for the past three years? His only job has been to seek out drug dealers and to arrest them. What is Sheriff Frank DeTrolio's opponent's record in INET?
I hope, and trust, the voting public is informed about who they are electing. Empty and unreasonable campaign promises are not good. Join me in re-electing Frank DeTrolio for sheriff.
