Fire burns an acre of brush in Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Fire Department answered a call made
around 4 p.m. to fight a fire in an open brush area Thursday.
It was a slow-moving brush fire near the Glenmore neighborhood,
according to Moses Lake Fire Department chief assistant Pete
Kunjara.

The fire reached about an acre in size, estimated Kunjara. The burned area is mainly covered with tumbleweed.
Fire crews were at the scene for about an hour.
There were no property damages or injuries.
Firefighters surveyed the area afterwards looking for a cause but were unable to locate a source, said Kunjara.
Michelle Buckingham phoned the fire department.
"Some high school kids knocked on my door when they got off the school bus and told me about the fire; that's when I called," said Buckingham.
She said she lives close to where the fire burned brush.
"The fire started out really small, but then it got really big, really quickly," said Buckingham.
When firefighters arrived, the fire was about three-fourths of an acre in size, said Kunjara.
At this point, fire crews are looking for further clues.
No other recent fires have been reported in the area, said Kunjara.
The Glenmore neighborhood is a newer development. It is about five years old.
