Do I need life insurance if I am single?

| September 1, 2010 2:00 PM

Single life has its advantages: less responsibility and more flexibility to focus on things you need or want to be doing. But is life insurance one of those things that you don't need to worry about when you are single?

Even though you are single, you probably still have loved ones who could benefit from your life insurance policy. According to a recent article on Yahoo!'s Business %26 Finance page, here are three reasons you should consider checking out life insurance quotes if you are single:

1. It might be more costly if you purchase it later. Having kids or developing a health condition can cause your life insurance rates to rise, so it's best to lock in at lower rates if possible.

2. It may be used to pay off debts.

3. Family and close friends can benefit from your insurance disbursement. If you'd like to leave something behind for your loved ones when you die, life insurance is one way to do that. There's also the option to donate your benefit to charity.

If you are unfamiliar with life insurance options, www.lifehappens.org is a great resource. On the website, non-profit organization LIFE provides information on different types of insurance and tips for buying insurance.
