MOSES LAKE -  The Grant County Teenage Republicans will host a membership drive on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

They are meeting at Lake Bowl at 1165 North Stratford Road, in Moses Lake.

Organizers are hoping that young people from ages 13 to 19 will show up and any adults who are interested in advising the group.

Event attendees are asked to bring money for food and games.

Event organizer Kayce Chlarson said she hopes the event will serve as a springboard for ideas.

"We wanted to hold this event at a bowling alley so that we can have fun and then talk about our plans for the rest of the year. The main goal of this is to have new ideas and thoughts," said Chlarson, who is 15 years old.

Chlarson said she conceived of the idea of a political group for young adults about two years ago.

"I was inspired to start this club because I wanted other teenagers to be more involved, too. I wanted us to be informed so that when we turn 18, we can be informed voters," she said.

Chlarson said she also hopes the event will increase membership just in time for the group's second trip to visit legislators in Olympia in February.

"We're going to need help in our fund-raiser in January. Having more members in the group will give us all the help we need," said Chlarson.

The group currently has about 10 to 15 active members, she said.

The group organized their first trip to Olympia in March.

"We talked to legislators and were able to discuss the issues; let them know how the issues affected teenagers," said Chlarson.
