Vision 2020 cleans up Moses Lake street
MOSES LAKE — The Vision 2020 group donned gloves and brought bright yellow plastic bags as they picked up trash along their Adopt-A-Street route on Tuesday.
“We pick up trash four times a year. We typically end up filling the back of the truck full of trash. It’s a pretty consistent amount regardless of when we pick up trash,” said Vision 2020 member Bill Ecret.
The group has been responsible for a half-mile stretch on Stratford Road between Valley and Kinder Roads for the past four years, according to Ecret.
“We want to do anything that attracts tourism and is good for the citizens. We want to do anything that makes the city a better place to live,” said Ecret.
Several Job Corps students from around the state participated in the beautification task.
“It is a nice day and I wanted to get out and do something,” said Dameon Johnson, who is from Seattle.
“I think this is a great idea, I wish Seattle would do something like this. It really makes the city a better place,” he said.
Fellow Job Corps classmate Zack Mayer thought the program made Moses Lake look more inviting.
“This is definitely a clean place. You would never be able to get this clean in other cities,” said Mayer, Everett, WA.
“If you never did this, it would look drastically different,” he said.
The two have been in Moses Lake for about a month for the Job Corps program.
There are about 35 groups involved in the Adopt-A-Street program, according to Ecret.
Moses Lake Mayor Jon Lane also participated in the event.
