MABTON - A Class 1A state tournament team a year ago, the youthful, 2010 version of the Royal Lady Knights may have lost an opportunity to repeat the feat this season.
The Lady Knights dropped a pivotal 3-1 (25-21, 20-25. 25-14, 25-22) South Central Athletic Conference (SCAC) East road decision at Mabton to leave them at 6-12 overall and 3-6 in league play.
Terin Gonzales led Royal with seven kills and seven digs, Moriah Christensen had 10 assists, Ali Anderson finished with seven assists, six digs, and two aces, while Marija Rollema contributed five aces.
"I would think there would have to be some upsets at this point now," Royal head coach Paul Olsufka said. "We really needed to get this win tonight. It's a real tough loss. We just didn't come through. We had a great comeback in the second game when Ali stepped up and served out the win. I was hoping that would propel us a little bit but we fell flat in that third game."
