Charlene Dorothy Potter

Charlene Dorothy Potter passed away on October 17, 2010 at Hospice House of Spokane following a brief illness. Charlene was born in Colville, WA on September 1, 1937 to John and Dorothy Urhausen. She grew up in Kettle Falls, WA, graduating from Kettle Falls High School.

From Charlene’s first marriage to Paul C. Matlock, she was blessed with two children; daughter Rita (Bjork) and son Steve. Following four years in Pullman, WA, they lived in Ephrata, WA where Charlene was a homemaker, later working for Ephrata schools in the kitchen preparing hot lunches. She also worked for Barry Chevrolet, Berschauer’s and Ed Allen law offices.

On August 24, 1985 Charlene married Harvey A. Potter, a high school sweetheart from Kettle Falls, making their home in Spokane, WA. They enjoyed 25 years of marriage.

Charlene was an accomplished seamstress and loved to work in their yard. She also liked to play Bingo. Her greatest joy was being with family, and cherished time with her grandchildren. In her last days, great grandson Logan’s visits brought a smile as she cuddled him.

Charlene is survived by her children, Rita (Dale) Bjork and Steve of Moses Lake; grandchildren Brad, Bryan and Kristin Bjork and great grandson Logan. She is also survived by three step-children, Tim Potter, Kim Potter, both of Puyallup, WA, Fran Marin of Spokane, their children and grandchildren.

Charlene was preceded in death by husband Harvey on September 30, 2010, her parents and a brother John Ray Urhausen.

Memorial services to celebrate Harvey and Charlene’s lives will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 23 at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St., Spokane. If desired, donations in Charlene’s memory may be made to Hospice of Spokane, P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210.
