Prep Volleyball: MOSES LAKE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 3, WILSON CREEK 0
WILSON CREEK - A 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-19) win by visiting Moses Lake Christian Academy's Lady Lions last night meant that Wilson Creek's Lady Devils' chances at second place in the North Central 1B league has gone by the wayside.
The Lady Lions (15-4, 7-1) bounced back from a loss to league-leaders Thorp on Monday, with a strong performance, sparked by Rachel Verhage (13 kills), Melissa Verhage (nine kills), Susan Timofeyev (nine kills) and Kristina Firouzi (35 assists).
Academy player Madison Yamane chipped in with six service aces.
"It was nice to come out and play well after a tough loss," Lady Lions head coach Dean Spurbeck said. "We played relaxed which just makes for good volleyball. We were aggressive hitting the ball and Kristina spread the ball around well. Our serving was very good tonight, led by Madison."
Holly Wilson had six kills and three blocks for the Lady Devils (6-5, 5-4).
"We didn't play real well in terms of passing and Moses Lake Christian did what they normally do and were pretty smart with the ball," Wilson Creek head coach Mike Ottis said. "They placed it well and handled the ball well when it came to their side and that seems to be the difference."
