Prep Soccer: OTHELLO 2, Ellensburg 0
OTHELLO - One goal and another assist from Othello Lady Huskie Lindsay Garza was enough for the hosts to capture a key 2-0 Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) win last night.
The victory gave Othello (8-6, 5-2) sole possession of third place in the CWAC and if they can win out through the remainder of their league schedule they would host the league's sixth seed in next week's first round loser out district playoff.
"By winning tonight has allowed us to play the elimination round," Othello head coach Kevin McDonald said. "We broke the tie tonight with Ellensburg and if we don't screw it up we will stay there. We'd play at home in a loser out."
Garza scored first in the game's 12th minute, driving home an assist by Alexis Martinez.
She then fed Tori Zambrano in the 34th minute to give Othello the 2-0 lead which held until the final whistle.
"The key was midfield play after we'd been struggling alot with it lately," McDonald said. "That was a big factor tonight. This time the midfielders played the whole game and if they can do that they give the defense a better chance to hold the other team from scoring."
Ellensburg outshot Othello 15-9, yet the Lady Huskies were economical enough to earn the win.
"They outshot us but we are making our shots count." McDonald said. "As long as we put it in that big rectangle that is the key to the game right there."
