Moses Lake designates Halloween as Saturday
MOSES LAKE — Halloween will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 30, in Moses Lake instead of Sunday, Oct. 31.
Council members passed the resolution in a recent city council meeting to help residents avoid schedule conflicts with any church activities typically held on Sunday, said city manager Joseph Gavinski.
“Every time Halloween falls on a Sunday, we get a lot of requests from members of the community asking if the city would look into changing the trick-or-treating day to Saturday,” said Gavinski.
“This does not mean that people cannot celebrate Halloween on Oct. 31; it just means the city is recommending people celebrate Halloween on Saturday as well,” he added.
Gavinski said he believed businesses in downtown Moses Lake are holding Halloween celebrations on Saturday as well.
“The city obviously cannot change the fact that Oct. 31 is a Sunday. Instead, we are asking people to use Saturday as their primary day for Halloween celebrations,” said Gavinski.
The last time the city suggested Halloween activities be celebrated on a Saturday was in 2004.
