Witnesses sought in fatal collision

OTHELLO — Investigators believe an Othello man killed while crossing state Route 17 Thursday morning may have been struck by several other vehicles after the initial hit.

Darrell Dickson, 76, Othello, was crossing state Route 17 when he was truck by a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling 60 miles per hour, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Authorities are asking anyone with further information about the collision to come forward.

The truck was heading southbound on SR 17, driven by Kevin Besel, 58, Othello.

The collision occurred six miles south of Othello, according to the report.

The area where Dickson was crossing was not a designated crosswalk, according to state patrol.

Authorities believe Dickson lived near the scene of the accident and may have been moving garbage out to the curb.

The front end of the truck sustained $2,000 worth of damages, according to state patrol.

The accident temporarily shut down southbound SR 17, said state patrol.
