Immunization suggested for Whooping Cough
OTHELLO — The Adams County Health Department is encouraging people to get their immunizations after cases of pertussis (whooping cough) were reported in the Othello area on Oct. 11.
There is no licensed pertussis vaccine for adults 65 and older, so adults over 65 who are taking care of infants should contact their physician for further recommendations.
The illness is most severe in children under one year old.
“It’s really about getting people in for immunizations,” said Karen Potts, a public health nurse at the Health Department. “Anything we can do to keep those babies healthy is important.”
Pertussis immunizations are available at the Adams County Health Department, 425 E. Main in Othello, at Columbia Basin Health Association clinic sites and other health care providers.
For more information contact the Adams County Health Department 509-488-2031.
