Prep Volleyball: ROYAL 3, Kiona-Benton 1
ROYAL CITY - Well it's about time.
The Royal Lady Knights must have been feeling that way after last night's 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22) narrow win over visiting Kiona-Benton in South Central Athletic Conference (SCAC) East play.
"It was nice to get a win at home and two good matches together back to back," Royal head coach Paul Olsufka said. "We are becoming a scrappy team and getting after it a bit more."
Royal (5-9, 3-5) has had a penchant of taking an early lead only to see it go in the opposite direction but on Thursday the Lady Knights held firm despite a narrow third set loss.
Moriah Christensen finished with 13 assists, nine digs, and four aces, while Lindsey Christensen finished with 10 digs, seven kills and two aces.
Terin Gonzales also came up big with 14 digs and nine kills.
"Terin really stepped up and played well tonight," Olsufka said. "Moriah also did an excellent job of serving."
Royal used a libero for the first time this season and Madison Stakkeland stepped into the role to record eight digs. Ali Anderson added 12 assists, five kills and two aces for the Lady Knights as well.
"'Together we can,' has been our motto all year long," Olsufka said. "I think the girls are beginning to make that happen."
