MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake firefighters are flipping pancakes and serving breakfast on Saturday.

The Moses Lake Fire Department hosts their annual firefighter breakfast from 5:30 a.m. to noon at their firehouse located at 701 Third Avenue.

In its 19th year, the event is the department's main fund-raiser.

Donations go toward purchasing various firefighting equipment not budgeted into the department's annual fund, said fire chief Tom Taylor.

"Sometimes our equipment fails in the middle of the year and we didn't anticipate the failure. This fund-raiser allows us to purchase things that break last minute," he said.

Tickets are $6 per person, or $20 for a family.

The breakfast includes a silent auction of items donated by local businesses, said Taylor.

He said the fund-raiser is a good way for the community to get to know the firefighters.

"It gives others a chance to get to see what the firefighters do and ask any questions," he said. "I think it would be great to have people come out and get to know us a little bit better."

Last year's fund-raiser raised about $5,000.

The money was used to purchase a second rescue suit, said Taylor.
