Just when the steelhead bite was really taking off, heavy rains brought the local rivers up and stalled the fishing. The Wenatchee doubled in flow just over one night. That's not all bad. Steelhead anglers know that now that the water temperatures are more in line with the season the higher water will pull more fish out of the main stem Columbia River. The colder weather and light snow that we've received in the region recently will actually stabilize flows and you can bet steelhead will be in a biting mood. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the best steelhead fishing of the season is ahead of us and not behind us. If you want to take full advantage of the opportunity to catch some steelhead this season and are fairly new at the game, you may want to attend a seminar I will be offering at High Mountain Hunting and Fishing Supply in Wenatchee. It will be held on Wednesday, December 8th, staring a 6 p.m. I will be focusing on steelhead fishing using the bobber and jig technique, and it will be very detailed. I'll cover everything from specialized rods and reels, lines jigs and more. Space is limited, so call High Mountain Hunting and Fishing Supply at 509-665-9362 if you plan to attend.

Hope everyone had a great Turkey Day and had a chance to visit with friends and family, and maybe do some fishing. Some of my favorite memories are from the Holidays and fishing with my family. One of my favorite photographs is of me (of course) holding a bright steelhead. In the lower corner of the shot is the date. It was taken on Christmas morning. Yup. Before we even opened our presents my brother Rick to my Dad, brother Lane and I out off the mouth of the Columbia. We all caught fish and were home in time to celebrate with the rest of the group. On another occasion my wife and I took my daughter, my sister Amy, her husband Todd and their two kids, Rachael and Katie to Rufus Woods. It was the Thanksgiving weekend a few years ago and it was cold. We all struggled to keep warm, but we caught a bunch of rainbow and had a blast. It is something we will all talk about for years. Don't forget, I am offering a seminar on bobber and jig fishing at High Mountain Hunting and Fishing Supply on Wednesday, December 8th, starting at 6 p.m. Call the store to reserve a seat.
