Glen Albert Gilbert

| November 24, 2010 12:00 PM

Glen Albert Gilbert, age 92, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2010 at The Village in Othello, Washington.

Glen was born August 28, 1918 to Ozza Leandrew and Aurilla Ross Gilbert in Joseph, Utah. His mother passed away when he was 3 years old. His father later married Rosey Meranda Dearden and he spent his youth living in Arcadia, Utah.

Glen married his childhood sweetheart, Lula Mae Horrocks, on July 22, 1941 just prior to being inducted into the Army and sent to Fort Lewis, Washington at the beginning of WWII. Their marriage was later solomized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 16, 1944. Glen spent the war in the south Pacific and contracted malaria as a result. It prevented him from being shipped to Germany and may have save his life.

When he returned to Utah at the close of the war he began farming with his father and brothers. In 1954 he heard that land was opening up in Washington's Columbia Basin. Some of the families in their community, such as the Jenkins family, had already moved to Othello, Washington.

Glen farmed in Othello with his brother Garn and later his son Raymond. He and Lula served two missions for the LDS church, one in Georgia and the other on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico.

Glen was most known for his patience and kindness to everyone he knew. His main pastime was hard work and spending time with his family. Glen lovingly cared for his sweetheart, Lula, until she passed away on March 15, 2009. They were married for 67 years. We find joy in knowing that they are united again. Their legacy includes 10 children: Raymond (Lillie) of Othello, WA, Carolyn (Dale) Beus of Othello, WA, Maxine (Garf) Ivory of Moses Lake, WA, Aurilla (Gary) Christensen of Royal Slope, Wa, Joyce (John) McNeill of West Jordon, UT, Reva (Ron) Fowles West Jordon UT, James (Debra) Gilbert of Othello, WA, Sandy (Casey) Goodwin of Walla Walla, WA, LuAnn (Bart) Mackey of Springville, UT, and Sheila (Greg) Mackay of Bellevue, WA, 46 grandchildren, 108 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

We would like to thank Diana Garza and her caregivers for the care and concern they rendered these last few months while Glen lived at The Village. We would also like to thank all the caregivers at Avalon Healthcare that took such good care of both of our parents.
