MOSES LAKE - The annual "fill the bus" food and blanket drive is Saturday.

The Moses Lake Sunrise Rotary Club partnered with Trek Youth Group and students from the Moses Lake Christian Academy in obtaining food and blankets for Grant County families in need.

"It's a relevant activity," says Brent Kirwan, who helped coordinate the event. "With everything that's going on it's important to give back to your community and this is one way folks can help this season."

Two full-size 47-passenger coach buses will be accepting donations throughout the day. One will be parked outside Walmart at 1005 N. Stratford Rd., and the other at Lep-Re-Kon Foods, located at 2709 W. Broadway Ave.

"Our hope this year is to actually fill the buses with donations," Kirwan said.

Last year, the drive collected enough blankets to fill two U-Haul trucks.

"Last year it was really cold, and people came out in droves to drop off blanket donations," said Kirwan.

Organizers hope to collect new and used blankets and sleeping bags as well as coats, gloves and hats.

"It's really about what people feel like donating," Kirwan said.

All canned and frozen food collected goes to the Moses Lake Food Bank.

Donations can also be taken to the Moses Lake Business Association at 124 E. Third Ave., or Pioneer Veterinary Clinic at 827 Sharon Avenue in Moses Lake.
