Arlene Tislow
Born in Livermore, Maine on July 20, 1930, Arlene Mae Bowles was the youngest of seven children descended from parents John and Sophie Bowles.
In 1954, she helped her sister Eleanor Ring drive to California with nieces Connie (Ring) Shaw and Cindy (Ring) Parkin, (dec). They were returning to their home where Arlene’s brother-in-law, Clayton Ring (dec) was stationed as a Marine. There she met her husband Robert (Bob) Tislow who was serving in the Navy. They met the last weekend in August and were married 3 months later.
Two years later when Bob got out of the Navy they moved to Mount Lake Terrace in Bob’s home state of Washington. They also lived in Edmunds and North Bend before moving to Moses Lake, WA after Arlene retired. Arlene worked for Sears in Seattle for 30 years. Since 1991, they spent winters in Apache Jct, AZ.
As a couple they enjoyed years of camping, hiking, and fishing. They also enjoyed football and had season tickets to the Seahawks. While living in North Bend they had horses for trail riding and were active in the Washington State Horsemen. Arlene also spent many hours doing needlepoint, cross stich, crocheting, knitting, and quilting. Their home is full of wall hangings of her various works.
Arlene was a very thoughtful and loving wife, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Tislow, niece Connie Ring Shaw, and many other nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by sisters Eleanor Bowles Ring Burdin, Hilda Bowles Hannon, Margaret Bowles Bunton, and brothers Lowell Bowles, Emerson Bowles, and Clifford Bowles.
