ACH on to state; Warden wraps up volleyball season

COLBERT - As expectations rose following a top finish at the 2009 state tournament with nary a senior, the Almira/Coulee-Hartline volleyball team entered this campaign with plenty of goals on its plate.

First they won the Bi-County 1B regular season title, and then Saturday at Northwest Christian High School, they closed the books on a District 7 championship with a come-from-behind 3-2 (25-17, 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10) victory over Wilbur-Creston.

Brynna Stevens led ACH (16-2) with 16 kills, four blocks, and three aces as the Lady Warriors (16-2) now head to Yakima for the Class 1B state tournament at the SunDome beginning on Thursday.

They open with Neah Bay with a time yet to be determined.

We are excited to be where we wanted to be going into state and are ready to work hard this week in preparation for competitive play," ACH head coach Katie Stephens said.

ACH's first match and time was not announced as of press time by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA).

Lady Warriors' setter Madeline Isaak has 27 assists, Jordan Jones finished with 11 digs, and Nikki Osborne added four blocks in the title game win,

Osborne, Isaak, and Stevens all received All-League honors.

To advance into the final, ACH dispatched Cusick in the semifinal on Thursday night with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-17) win.

Osborne and Stevens each tallied eight kills while Osborne added four digs and three blocks, and Stevens served up three aces. Isaak finished with 21 assists.

ACH opened tournament play earlier that day with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-21) sweep of Wellpinit.

Osborne registered 12 kills and five blocks, Karlee Martin and Stevens each had four aces, and Isaak had 20 assists.
