Reader thinks dog shooting was unacceptable

I was driving home for lunch as I noticed a passing Grant County sheriff’s car going the opposite direction. Whenever I see our police force, usually, I am happy to know they are there for us and my mind sometimes wanders to some happy outcome I have had with them or when they have come to my rescue and others’.

Today, and most other days, however, when I see a Grant County deputy one thought hits me: Dog killer. I realize the one driving by or the next one probably wasn’t the one but I have to say it has left a bitter, bitter taste in my mouth.

Harsh words, I know, but the outcome was so unacceptable, careless and so hushed up, I am ashamed of our sheriff’s department and the Chelan County Sheriff’s “investigation” into this reckless act.

After speaking with more than seven witnesses, some more than once, I really thought justice would prevail. It did not.

According to my sources, Officer Lamens called out for help from his fellow officers when the two dogs engaged. Officer Lamens did not receive any help and then took it upon himself to shoot the retreating dog Slyder. To all the citizens who witnessed this, they conveyed to me this was totally over the top and incomprehensible. There should have been some consequences for his behavior.

I guess that’s it. I, and many other people, will never forget this blot on the sheriff’s record.

Shame on every one of you who played a part in this cover-up.
