YAKIMA — At the Apple Tree Resort in Yakima, the Columbia Basin was well represented Tuesday by boys golfers from Ephrata and Othello at the Class 2A state finals.

Tied for first after one round, Andrew Whalen of Ephrata, shot a 68 to keep pace with Blaine’s Ryan Wallen.

The cut for the field was 80 and those who scored that or lower remained alive for today’s second and final round.

Whalen was the only Tiger to make the cut as teammates Cody Cummings (83), and Bryan Heer (84) just missed making it to another round of action.

Othello Huskies golfers Jared Kummer and Sam Para both remained in the hunt for hardware shooting a 78 and 79 respectively.

Teammate Reuben Lopez shot an 89 which kept him from joining his Huskies teammates in today’s play.

YAKIMA — Despite a strong run to the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) regular season and regional titles, the Ephrata Lady Tigers were only able to push one of their five state qualifiers into today’s final round action.

Allie Duff, by virtue of her 93, wiggled her way into the final field, making the cut of 94 by one extra stroke.

Lady Tigers Kelsey Sage (101), Skyler Key (106), Kaylie Pixlee (106), and Megan Criss (118), all saw their highly successful season come to an end.

Othello saw two Lady Huskies keep their seasons alive as Devyn Olson finished with a 93 and teammate Delaney Towle squeezed in with a cut-making score of 94.

RICHLAND — The Royal Knights golf team saw two of its golfers master the Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland yesterday just enough to survive another day at the Class 1A state tournament.

Trevor Iverson finished with a 77 and Kyle Spartveit shot a 79 to both make the next round, getting in under the cut score of 80.

Knights teammate Kris Rice finished his season with a round of 90.

Warden took four golfers to Richland but their season came to a premature end as Nate Stott (83), Brandon Wurzer (89), Caleb Caballero (89), and Trent Bates (93) fell short.

The Warden boys were coming of a District Tournament championship last week.

RICHLAND — The Royal Lady Knights may not defend their Class 1A state title this season but Lacy Goroski made sure they didn’t go down without a fight.

Goroski shot a 95, just missing the cut of 94 to advance to today’s second and final round at the 2010 state finals in Richland.

Warden golfer Lara Crow shot a 92 to keep her season alive, while her District champions teammates, Carter Marks (97), Taylor Edson (114), and Brittany Stavig (123) saw their attempt to go on to another round end on Tuesday.

KENNEWICK — Two Lions golfers of Moses Lake Christian Academy made their way to the Class 1B/2B state finals in Kennewick and saw their seasons end on Tuesday.

Isaac Murrell’s round of 94 and Madison Molitor’s round of 106 weren’t enough to make the cut of 82 at Tri-City Country Club to end their seasons just short of playing on the season’s final day.

KENNEWICK — Ame McPhetridge found just enough in her arsenal to keep her season alive at the Class 1B/2B state finals at Tri-City Country Club with a 102 score yesterday.

The Moses Lake Christian Academy golfer made the cut by making the required score — 102.

McPhetridge will play in today’s second round.
